We are pleased to see e-Sgoil going from strength to strength as part of the National e-Learning Offer (NeLO) which provides support to learners, schools and parents across Scotland.

A team of Digital Depute Head Teachers, funded and supported by the Northern Alliance, are working alongside the e-Sgoil’s Head Teacher Angus Maclennan and teaching staff from across the nation to deliver live, interactive lessons to pupils on a daily basis during lockdown.

You can find out more about e-Sgoil’s 3-18 Lockdown Live offer, the study support programme, pre-recorded lessons and resources and more on their website: Digital learning from Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar | e-Sgoil (e-sgoil.com)

e-Sgoil’s work was recognised internationally before lockdown began, owing to its success in engaging learners and raising attainment using a distance learning model. However, its reach and impact has expanded significantly during the pandemic period. As Head Teacher, Angus attributes this to the power of collaboration between many partner organisations, including Education Scotland, the Northern Alliance, West Partnership, Bòrd na Gàidhlig, SCILT (Scotland’s National Centre for Languages) and Keep Scotland Beautiful.

He commented: “There are now very many partner agencies from across Scotland delivering lessons and enrichment experiences through the e-Sgoil portal. As we are providing inputs for the 3-18 age range, one of the biggest challenges is to publicise the totality of offer.

“I’m delighted with the way in which the e-Sgoil team and partners have developed this rich and varied offer together to support children and young people during the lockdown. It would be great if this level of cooperation and sense of common purpose was to be a positive legacy of the Covid pandemic.”
