1+2 is a key Government initiative aimed at promoting language learning among young people with the first foreign language being learned from P1 and the second from P5. This initiative is central to enabling today’s children and young people to thrive in a multilingual world, where the ability to communicate effectively in social, academic and commercial settings is crucial if they are to play their full part as global citizens in an ever evolving world. Across the Northern Alliance, officers are committed to work together on three key areas to develop integrated approaches to language learning;

  1. Transition from primary to secondary and the need to provide opportunities for language learning up through secondary schools/engagement with secondary practitioners
  2. Digital sharing of resources
  3. Moderation, standards and exemplification
